Do You Have Any Memories to Share of Clacton on Sea in Days Gone By

There is a team at Tendring District Council working on a Heritage Project to celebrate the Founding of Clacton on Sea 150 years ago. Part of this project involves creating and installing a heritage trail that will run from Jaywick Sands to Holland Haven and incorporating the Town Centre to celebrate this milestone.
They have recently put out an appeal for people to share their stories and memories of Clacton with by either emailing or posting them.

Essex Police Fraud Alert – Fleeceware

Fleeceware is a recently coined term that refers to mobile applications that come with excessive subscription fees, and in March over 200 such apps were discovered being advertised on the
Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
The applications attract users with the promise of a free 3-day trial, but once the trial is
over, they are charged a recurring subscription fee – even if they have deleted the app –
until they cancel the subscription in their device’s app subscription settings. One app
offers a short free trial followed by a $66 (£47.73) per week subscription, potentially
costing the victim $3,432 (£2,482.19) per year unless cancelled. These fleeceware
applications are actively advertised on major social networks.

Foster Care Fortnight

Over the past year, there has been much concern across the UK about the impact of Covid on children’s physical and mental wellbeing. They have had disrupted routines, time away from school and missed opportunities to physically interact with friends due to the pandemic. Although only a temporary pause in childhood experiences, there is much concern over the long-lasting impact this period of increased anxiety may have on our young people.

During Foster Care Fortnight, which runs from today, 10 – 23 May, Essex County Council are seeking to highlight how missing out on aspects of childhood can often be a sustained normality for many children arriving into care. They also want to highlight the life changing difference foster carers are making in giving children a second chance at the childhood they have been deprived of and helping them to recover from the trauma experienced.
